Captain Pete "Offshore Iron" Callahan

Saltwater, Inshore Flats & Big Game Specialist

📍 Base: Destin, FL 🎣 Experience: 20 Years 🏆 Specialty: Saltwater, Inshore Flats & Offshore

Captain Pete is a USCG-licensed Master Captain who has spent over two decades logging more than 3,400 charter trips across the Gulf of Mexico, operating out of Destin, Florida. His operational domain ranges from skinny 18-inch turtle grass flats targeting trophy snook and bull redfish to offshore contours exceeding 300 feet of water hunting king mackerel, mahi-mahi, wahoo, and amberjack. Over 20 years on open water, Pete has seen saltwater corrosion and extreme torque destroy hundreds of poorly engineered reels and rods.

At Apex Angler Pro, Pete leads our marine torture-testing protocol. His lab-to-water evaluations put gear through calibrated saltwater soak cycles, digital torque load cells up to 35 lbs of continuous drag, and high-cadence casting drills to measure guide ring heat dissipation and line abrasion. Every saltwater reel must endure real marine spray and heavy bottom-dredging runs before receiving an official rating under our standardized field testing methodology.

Holding a verified USCG Master Captain's License (50-Ton) alongside a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification, Pete brings an underwater perspective to tackle behavior, understanding how terminal rigging, fluorocarbon invisibility, and hydrodynamics interact around artificial reefs and natural ledges. When Pete reviews saltwater gear, every score is backed by hard numbers, real strain metrics, and grueling days on open water.
